How would I go about composing a piano peice?

My piano teacher is holding a composition competition, I have decided to participate though I have little experience. Does anybody have any advice on how to start?

I would be very grateful for any answers and 10 points for the BA!
Yeah I do know about arpeggios (my piano teacher insists, quite rightly!)

Ok start with one chord you think is really cool. now expand on that. Do you know what arpeggios are? that’s my favorite way to write music for any keyboard instrument. Piano, Hammond organ, synth, etc. Just take maybe three or four chords that sound good together and you like, but apposed to playing each note in the chord at the same time, play the notes separately but next to each other. like instead of holding down CEG all at the same time play C-E-G-(high)C (repeat), new chord. Get it? lol there are so many techniques. Just mess around with chords for a while and you’ll figure something out.
